Ceramic coatings

the first week decides the next five years

The coating goes on as a liquid and hardens onto the paint over the following seven days. That week is the only period where normal use can damage it. After that it is genuinely tough, and the job becomes washing it correctly and letting us check it twice a year.

Curing

the first seven days

Each window sits inside the one below it. Clear the last one and the car goes back to normal use.

First 12 hours

leave it parked

Ideally don't drive it at all. Under cover if you have a garage or carport. The coating is still soft and anything landing on it now can mark the finish permanently.

First 24 hours

keep it out of the rain

No water on the paint at all. If it has to sit outside, don't park under trees and move it before heavy rain. Rain landing on a soft coating is the most common cause of water spotting in a fresh install.

First 48 hours

no wipers, no washer jets

The glass coating needs to harden before the blades sweep across it. Don't use the washers either. If you get caught out and the screen needs clearing, pull over and use a clean microfibre.

First 7 days

don't wash it

No shampoo, no pressure washer, no quick detailer, nothing abrasive. You can drive normally from day two. If bird lime or a fuel spill lands on it, rinse that spot with plain water straight away and leave the rest alone.

Day 8 onward

fully cured

Back to normal. Wash it using the method below and it will keep performing for the full life of the coating.

Some wiper judder in the first two weeks is normal and settles on its own

The rules

never do these

The short list. Everything here either shortens the life of the coating or voids the warranty outright.

洗車機

automatic car washes

Spinning brushes put swirl marks straight through a coating and they do it in a single visit. This voids your warranty, no exceptions.

手洗い

hand car washes

Same outcome, different route. One bucket, a dirty sponge, and the grit off the last twenty cars. If in doubt, don't let anyone touch it.

ワックス

wax or polish over the top

It sits on the coating instead of bonding to it, blocks the water behaviour and dulls the finish. The coating is the protection. Nothing goes over it.

直射日光

washing in direct sun

Water dries on the panel faster than you can dry it and leaves mineral spotting etched into the surface. Early morning, evening, or in the shade.

放置

leaving contamination to sit

Bird lime, tree sap and fuel are all acidic. A coating buys you time, not immunity. Get them off the same day and it will never be an issue.

乾拭き

wiping dry paint

Never wipe a mark or a bit of dust off dry paint, not even with a clean microfibre. Always put water or a detail spray down as lubricant first.

Method

how to wash a coated car

Two buckets, one mitt, top to bottom. Around forty minutes, every two to three weeks. More often through a salted winter.

Step 01

rinse before anything touches it

Pressure washer or hose over the whole car first. Most of the grit that causes scratches comes off here, before a mitt goes anywhere near the paint.

Step 02

snow foam and dwell

If you have a foam lance, let it sit five minutes. Don't let it dry on the panel. Rinse off completely before you start contact washing.

Step 03

two buckets, grit guards

One with pH neutral shampoo, one with plain rinse water, grit guards in both. Rinse the mitt in the plain bucket after every single panel.

Step 04

top to bottom, straight lines

Roof, glass, upper panels, then lower panels and sills last. Straight lines, no circles. A second mitt for the bottom quarter of the car.

Step 05

wheels last, separate kit

Own bucket, own brushes. Brake dust is iron and it will scratch paint instantly. Wheel kit never goes near the bodywork, ever.

Step 06

rinse, then dry properly

Sheet the water off with an open hose, then a soft drying towel with detail spray as lubricant, or a blower. Never leave it to air dry.

Step 07

ph neutral shampoo only

Nothing with wax, gloss or added protection in it. Those leave a film sitting on the coating that kills the water behaviour you paid for.

Step 08

if in doubt, ask first

New product, new tool, or a mark you're not sure about. One message before you touch it costs nothing. Fixing it afterwards does.

Your call

do it yourself, or hand it back to us

Both are completely fine. Plenty of clients enjoy washing their own car. Plenty would rather never think about it again.

Option A

you do it

Everything you need is on this page. Ask us anything, any time, and we'll talk you through it properly.

Fortnightly wash using the method above. Around forty minutes once you're in the rhythm.
Contamination removed same day. Bird lime and sap are the only real threats between services.
A ceramic topper every few months if you want to keep the water behaviour at its sharpest.
Photo check. Send us a picture whenever something looks off and we'll tell you what it is, free.
Option B

or we come to you

Same standard as the day we coated it. We arrive with water, power and everything else. You don't need to be there.

Maintenance wash every six months keeps the coating performing and your warranty live.
We spot problems before you do. Bonded contamination and early failure are far cheaper caught early.
Booked and reminded for you. We get in touch when it's due, you say yes or move it.
Anything urgent, call us. Something landed on it and won't shift, we'll come and sort it.

Warranty

what's covered

Registered to your vehicle on the day of application, and it stays with the car if you sell it.

signature protection · 5 years

Crystal Serum Light with EXO v5 over the top. Covers coating failure, delamination, loss of water repellency and premature gloss loss under normal use.

essential protection · 2 years

CQuartz 3.0. Same cover, shorter term.

glass coating · 2 years

Or roughly 20,000 miles, whichever comes first. Glass wears faster than paint because the wipers physically abrade it every time they sweep. That's why the term is shorter.

annual inspection

The warranty stays live with a yearly service through Pineworks. We'll get in touch when yours is due.

transferable

It follows the car, not the owner. If you sell it, let us know and we'll reissue the warranty to the new keeper.

not covered · physical damage

Stone chips, scratches, dents and accident damage. A coating is chemical protection with real hardness, but it is not armour.

not covered · machine washes

Any automatic or hand car wash. Brush marring is visible and identifiable under inspection light, and it ends the warranty on the affected panels.

not covered · neglect

Etching from bird lime, sap or fuel left to sit. Also anything caused by a third party polishing, waxing or machine working the paint.

not covered · resprays

Any panel refinished after application. The coating doesn't carry over onto new paint. Tell us and we'll recoat that panel.

Full terms are in your printed booklet and at Terms of Service. If something looks wrong with the coating, send a photo before you try to fix it yourself.
